Nanga Parbat; The Killer Mountain

    The ninth-highest peak on Earth, Nanga Parbat, or the "naked mountain," is also referred to locally as Diamer, which means "king of the mountains." Its summit is located at 8,126 metres above sea level. Nanga Parbat is the westernmost major peak of the Himalayas and, in the conventional view of the Himalayas as bounded by the Indus and Brahmaputra rivers, it serves as the western anchor of the entire mountain range. It is located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, directly southeast of the northernmost bend of the Indus River. One of the 14 eight-thousanders is Nanga Parbat. Nanga Parbat, an enormous, majestic peak that towers over the landscape around it, is renowned for being challenging to climb and has acquired the moniker Killer Mountain due to the high rate of climber fatalities.
